The discussion of taking a 3D printed part from development to a production item continues to be a hot topic. Our intent is to discuss the requirements needed to move a part from this concept stage to production, and to show case studies of various technologies that can be used at these different steps. Specifically, we will touch on COOLPUSE, this technology falling under the umbrella of Electrochemical Machining (ECM), which can remove the support structure and improve the surface finish all in one simultaneous process (taking only minutes to achieve). Also, the use of Abrasive Flow Machining (AFM) to reach internal passageways for more complicated geometries, and improve their surface finish. Lastly, the use of Thermal Energy Method (TEM) to assist in the removal of support structures. Or how these technologies can be used together to achieve the desired end results for the customer. All with the goal of taking a part from concept to production and creating a usable part.
