This presentation discusses the effects of finishing processes on metal PBF parts. By taking a family of parts through multiple finishing processes – and using both NDT and physical testing on the resulting assemblies – gain an understanding of the various approaches to the manufacturing process affect the final part’s characteristics.

In this study, the same set of parts were evaluated – EBM titanium bicycle components – as processed by micro machining, chemical milling, and media finishing. The results show vast differences in surface characteristics and cost, and the resulting assemblies have been tested destructively to evaluate their performance. This presentation will cover the full manufacturing lifecycle, including test results and key takeaways for product engineers.
