Oak Ridge National Laboratory
Andrew Messing is a software developer and research for Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility. Andrew is a current computer science masters student at the University of Tennessee and plans to pursue a Ph.D. in robotics. As the lead developer for both ORNL Slicer and ORNL Slicer 2, he has researched and developed several algorithms used to improve the toolpath planning for Large Scale Additive Manufacturing and 3D printing in general. This software is in use by several companies including ORNL, Cincinnati Incorporated, Wolf, Ingersoll, and many others. He currently is working on algorithms that use physical models for more advanced toolpath planning for superior resulting parts.
