Eric Barnes is currently a Northrop Grumman Fellow responsible for the Aerospace System Sector Additive Manufacturing (AM) Technology portfolio. Eric is also leading the Northrop Grumman Corporate additive manufacturing consortium. He is the Northrop Grumman representative on the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, America Makes. Mr. Barnes has led the implementation of polymer and metallic additive manufacturing on multiple vehicle products at Northrop Grumman. Previously, Mr. Barnes was the Manager of Materials and Processes, including materials research and development, for Integrated Systems – Western Region. He has 29 years of experience in materials, processes and Manufacturing research and development, implementation, design, and production support. Mr. Barnes has managed a many DoD contracts from AFRL, DARPA, ONR, Army Research Labs and NASA in the areas of coatings, polymer composites, automation, drilling, and metals. In addition to the aforementioned R&D programs, Eric has led projects for or worked directly on the F/A-18 E/F, B-2, F-35, NASA Reusable Launch Vehicle, Tri-Service Standoff Attack Missile, Targets, Global Hawk, Tacit Rainbow, F-5, and the ASDS submarine program. Mr. Barnes holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a M.S., Materials Science and Engineering from UCLA and has participated as an advisor to the UCLA Materials Science and Engineering Industrial Advisory Board.
