Nikola Kalentics is a PhD student at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland since 2015. The topic of his PhD thesis is 3D Laser Shock Peening (a novel hybrid metal additive manufacturing process which combines Laser Shock Peening with Selective Laser Melting). The objective of this novel AM approach is to tailor residual stresses in 3D, prevent parts from cracking during processing and increase the fatigue life of SLM parts. During the course of his PhD studies, he also became a co-author of two patents in the field of additive manufacturing. He has a Master degree in Mechanical engineering from the University of Novi Sad, Serbia.
