Tom was educated at Rutgers University and has worked in the metallography of metal powders for more than 40 years. In his current role, he is responsible for the characterization of powders and consolidated materials using light and electron microscopy. As an active and long-time member of the APMI International, Tom was presented their Fellow Award for significant contributions to the technology of the industry. He also received the Distinguished Service to Powder Metallurgy Award from the Metal Powder Industries Federation. In 2007 he was co-chairman of the annual Powder Metallurgy Conference in Denver, CO and has served on the organizing committee for the annual conference for more than 20 years. Additionally, he is chairman of the PM Metallography Competition, which is held in conjunction with the PM Conference. He is also active with the education of those in the PM community as a speaker in MPIF seminars and short courses. Tom is a member of ASM International and was a member and secretary of the Board of Directors of the International Metallographic Society. He also speaks at the annual IMS meetings and acts as a judge in the IMS Metallography Contest. He has authored more than 40 technical papers on the use of metallographic testing in various areas of powder metallurgy and now, additive manufacturing. Tom is also a member of ASTM and was on the adjunct faculty at Drexel University’s evening college in Philadelphia.
