Evolutionary developments in AM pre-printing structural analysis and post-processing finishing techniques have opened the opportunity to specify on car cosmetic and functional AM parts. The authors will describe the methods used to create cosmetically acceptable AM surfaces that also have unique functional performance. New techniques combining generative design, computational fluid dynamics and the design freedom of AM improve EV range and offer better passenger comfort. The authors will describe the AM methods used to improve fluid flow for battery cooling systems and cabin environments. New, cost-effective finishing solutions for auto interior trim solution will be presented.
