Although 3D-printing and additive manufacturing technologies have been around for over 20 years, this growing set of technologies is clearly in an emerging phase of commercialization. While the benefits that AM technologies bring to component design and production are well known, the broader business impacts on supply chains, distribution, inventory management, resiliency, sustainability, and operations are just now becoming better understood and applied for bottom-line impacts.

In this panel discussion, stakeholders throughout the AM ecosystem will discuss the opportunities and challenges for increased AM adoption for greater resource efficiency, improved resiliency, increased control over supply chains, and better economic and environmental outcomes. From legacy parts to customized designs to enabling the technologies of tomorrow, the 3D-printing-enabled AM technologies are being leveraged today for better, more resource efficient, more sustainable, and financially advantageous outcomes.

The benefits of AM practices are real but must be understood from a holistic business view. Broadening awareness and understanding of the many benefits and potential of AM practices beyond the AM sector is critical for increased adoption, sector growth, and addressing the increasingly uncertain global business environment.
