An End-to-End Digital Thread to Accelerate Additive Adoption

Additive manufacturing has enabled transformative capabilities for adopting organizations who fully leverage the technology on their products. Additive is a digital process by design, showcasing the power of an Industry 4.0 modern manufacturing technology that is able to collect, analyze and protect data across the AM process chain. This end-to-end digital thread can accelerate additive technology adoption by enabling access to data to demonstrate a repeatable and reliable process and increasing operational efficiencies with data-driven decision making. We will illustrate an integrated digital thread approach and its implementation at Boeing. This end-to-end digital process ranges from design for additive manufacturing in a CAD environment to the monitoring and control of the actual printing process, which will be elaborated using a representative application. We will demonstrate the significance of the digital thread in assuring quality of additive components and expand on a secure distributed manufacturing network, which is envisioned to be a key enabler of a resilient AM network for increased AM adoption and rapid deployment.
