Conventional manufacturing can be slower, more costly and less efficient than AM regarding manufacturing plant equipment and tooling. Reasons like raw material supply chain requirements, subtractive processes that add cost and time to remove unnecessary material and limited machine access to achieve higher complexity solutions are just some of the drivers for this issue. We will explore, and consider, using advanced AM to optimize traditional manufacturing by first discussing the reasons for considering AM. Then we will explore examples of how to take advantage of additive Manufacturing with a team of experts. We will discuss topics like cost reduction, faster implementation, light weighting for improved ergonomics/efficiency/quality/higher efficiency, and reliability. Where possible we will highlight the things that make additive manufacturing the best solution such as higher complexity/ Flexibility and integrated functionality. We will also help define how the technology impacts both on the individual level and for automated system implementations.
