Additive manufacturing currently has a parts problem. Without enough strong AM use cases, businesses end up investing in machines, materials, and software that aren’t utilized to their fullest potential – and it’s bad for business industry-wide.

But why is it so challenging to find AM parts? Because for the average worker, developing new skills and implementing new processes is difficult and time-consuming. We have to be prepared to meet businesses and employees who are resistant to change.

Although the AM industry is a field of early adopters, as the industry grows both in scale and scope, we need to entice the late majority to adopt AM. Today, AM knowledge is highly specialized, which is why it’s our job as members of the industry to mitigate obstacles and improve AM adoption. To do this, we need to put ourselves in the position of not just who our users are today, but who they will be in the future.
