In-Field Additive Manufacturing - Fielding Advanced AM Capabilities

Over the last decade, we observed multiple initiatives to 3D print prototypes and uncritical spare parts on demand and in the battlefield. These initiatives were essential as proof of concept and demonstrated how 3D printing enables decentralized manufacturing. However, to unleash the full potential the focus must change, from proof of concept to operational capacities, from testing to performing.  Fieldmade has developed these operational capacities in close collaboration with the Norwegian MOD - bringing both industrial grade polymer and metal additive manufacturing into the battlefield. At present, our mobile micro factories have been deployed across Europe and have been validated in various NATO exercises. Furthermore, to support and secure this novel capacity, we have established a digital support infrastructure. It allows military personnel to access OEM verified and approved manufacturing files - providing the missing ingredient to enable additive manufacturing of certified spare parts on demand and in theatre.
