The presentation will focus on three different areas including technology changes, workforce changes and people. I will discuss how software and hardware has evolved in technology changes. What new technologies have come into play and what can new technologies learn from old school AM? During the workforce changes, I will discuss the educational requirements, changes to hiring practices which will cover recruitment and retention, job diversification, diversification of technology and the increase in number of companies. Startup culture vs old school corporate, on-site vs remote vs hybrid, risks and strategy. In the people section, I will look at how AM is about the people, what do the people care about? Purpose – employees want to see how their work connects to societal and political debates of the day, DE&I initiatives and sustainability. I will conclude with a brief summation of the major changes in industry, highlight where industry and it’s people are headed and finish with the fact that although we may be evolving, old school and new school have more in common than they think.
