Reactive extrusion additive manufacturing is a new technology for printing of durable thermoset elastomers. This presentation will provide a high-level overview of the technology and its applicability for printing thermoset elastomers onto a variety of substrates including metals, plastics, glass, and textiles. Applications for which printing elastomers onto substrates is attractive will be highlighted. Techniques for printing durable elastomers on each of the substrates will be covered, along with design guidelines. Data on the peel strength on a variety of substrates (textile, metal, plastic, glass) will be shared, as will other relevant properties of the hybrid components.
Learning Objectives:
- Upon completion, participant will be able to evaluate the applicability of 3D printing of thermoset materials to their work.
- Upon completion, participant will be able to compare 3D printing of thermoset materials to other methods of processing.
