Standards Role to Achieve 10x AM Production Increase in Aerospace

A persistent challenge within the AM industry is to increase productivity, maintain quality, yet decrease both cost and production time. Public consensus standards play an increasing role in achieving these goals. A critical initial step is to properly characterize a material's basic properties and the associated design values. To facilitate industry-wide adoption, however, many of these physical properties should publicly available. What information should be shared with the supply chain in order to realize a 10x increase in AM productivity? How can the various stakeholders participate in reaching these fundamental business goals? What are the implications of artificial intelligence and probabilistic (vs deterministic) models regarding materials and design? How can standards close the gap between company-domain knowledge and federal regulations? These are among the essential questions that will be addressed during this diverse expert panel.
