Refractory metals are known for their exceptional properties and resistance to heat, wear and corrosion, which are desirable in industries such as aerospace, defense, medical and nuclear. Discover how electron beam powder bed fusion (EB-PBF) technology enables the production of refractory metals—such as tungsten and its alloys— by preheating the powder bed layer by layer above the Ductile to Brittle Transition Temperature before melting. This unique capability allows crack prone and high melting point metals like refractories to be 3D printed layer by layer with virtually no cracking and minimal defects. Join JEOL in learning about the role EB-PBF can play in advancing manufacturing processes for these critical materials.
