Dr. Brandon McWilliams is the technical lead for metals additive manufacturing (AM) at the DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory. Brandon earned his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Drexel University in 2008. His research interests include multi-scale modeling and experimental validation at relevant length and time scales, constitutive modeling, process modeling for virtual manufacturing, non- conventional field based processing of materials, and AM. Recent research has focused on understanding processing/microstructure/property relations in AM metals, developing in-situ process monitoring techniques along with digital machine learning based analytics tools for powder bed AM processes, and developing Integrated Computational Materials Engineering approaches to AM feedstock material development to accelerate development of new capabilities which address Army modernization priorities.
