Dave Abbott is a senior staff engineer with GE Aviation and is deeply involved in additive manufacturing materials and process development. He has over thirty years of experience in the additive field, primarily in the aerospace sector. Before joining GE in 2005, Dave spent eight years as a cofounder of AeroMet Corporation and five years with Pratt & Whitney as a welding engineer specializing in laser materials processing. He has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Welding Engineering from the Ohio State University and has several publications and patents related to additive manufacturing. Dave is the chair of SAE’s AMS-AM Repair subcommittee on additive repair for aerospace after having been the chair of the main committee from its inception in 2015 through 2021. In his spare time, he likes to read, exercise, learn to play guitar, follow the Buckeyes, and spend time with his wife and two sons.
