John F. Maguire is a founding partner and Chief Technology Officer at S^3 Inc. He was previously Research Leader, Branch Chief and Director of Operations for Integrated Materials Science and Engineering at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in Dayton, OH. Prior to joining AFRL, he held an academic and industrial position at UCLA, U. Amsterdam, GE-Aviation and SwRI. He invented the first laser projection system used for polymer composite fabrication and pioneered the integration of sensor-based process control technologies that incorporated artificial intelligence. He has published numerous highly-cited refereed papers and made invited presentations at universities and conferences around the world. John has received honors and award in both science and technology, including Fellowship in both the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and the Royal Society of Chemistry. He was awarded his Doctor of Philosophy in 1976 for studies in chemical physics (laser light scattering from soft matter) and in 2004 earned the UK's prestigious higher doctorate, Doctor of Science, for his "internationally recognized contributions to Materials Science and Engineering."
John has acted as a consultant for major corporations and consortia. He is passionate about the transition of deep new science into real-world manufacturing applications that demonstrate clear and compelling return on investment, competitive advantage and positive societal impact.
