Kolby M. Pearson
General Dynamics NASSCO
Kolby Pearson joined the Structures Group of the Initial Design and Naval Architecture Functional Engineering Department at General Dynamics NASSCO in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from San Diego State University. His career began as a college intern in 2018 with NASSCO, where he assisted on multiple structural design and analysis projects. Now an Engineer II, Kolby’s current responsibilities include leadership roles in multiple projects through the National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) relating to investigation of swage bulkheads, including Finite Element Analyses (FEA) and physical testing of bulkhead models in a structural laboratory, as well as a new NSRP project examining the scaling up of 3D printing to pave the path for large-scale parts to be printed and approved for use onboard vessels. In addition to NSRP projects, Kolby is a structural analyst for primary and secondary ship structure, using FEA as well as classic structural calculations to evaluate all kinds of structural design challenges.
