Manuel Umanzor

Manuel graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2004 and served in the heavy equipment industry, performing tasks in product support and later in applications engineering. After a ten-year period, he left his position in industry to pursue advanced engineering degrees; first he earned a master's degree in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering in 2016 and soon after he decided to continue onto the PhD program in Materials Science and Engineering at Virginia Tech. Throughout his journey, Manuel has been involved in projects related to materials characterization, metallurgy and computer simulation. He recently accepted a position at Corning Incorporated as the Additive Manufacturing Innovation Lead for metals.
