Prof. Brochu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mining and Materials Engineering at McGill University. He is codirector of the NSERC network on Holistic Innovation on Additive Manufacturing (AM) and co-director of the Canadian AM Network. He was a Gerald Hatch Engineering Faculty Fellow on AM (2015-2021), Canada Research Chair (2006-2016) and Hydro-Quebec Faculty Scholar (2009-2015). Prior to Joining McGill in 2004, he was the Research Officer on electron beam welding and freeforming of aerospace materials at the NRC and Post-Doctoral Fellow at Sandia National Laboratories. He is the Director of the Powder Processing and AM of Advanced Materials Laboratory at McGill and is leading research projects to demystify the competitive interactions between metal powder engineering, their AM and sinterability and their response to heat treatment. Prof. Brochu has 7 patents, published over 250 peer-reviewed and conference publications, and have given over 60 keynote/invited seminal presentations worldwide. He received several distinctions, including the MetSoc Distinguished Materials Scientist Award (2021), AWS A. F. Davis Silver Medal Award – Best paper in Structure Design category of the Welding Journal (2020), 2017 Editor’s Choice article by the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Thermal Spray Technology (2017) in the last 5 years.
