Michael is a member of the Arc Welding and DED Processes Group at EWI. He is a leading expert in robotic arc directed energy deposition additive manufacturing and robotic arc welding. Michael has an extensive background with additional expertise applying advanced gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, shielded metal arc welding, submerged arc welding, electron beam welding, and friction stir welding to a range of applications and alloy systems.
Prior to joining EWI in 2018, Michael worked at TOSOH where he supported the EBW and FSW of sputtering targets for the semiconductor industry. Prior to that he worked at the Swagelok Company as a senior welding engineer and welding supervisor. There, he qualified welders and welding procedures to applicable codes, designed welding fixtures, and developed microjoining processes. He was also involved in an important initiative to rewrite the company’s welding quality manuals. Michael began his career at American Showa Automotive Plant where he automated and error-proofed automated assembly lines. He is an AWS Certified Welding Inspector.
