2019 Innovation Auditions Finale
To start off the third day of RAPID + TCT 2019, our two Innovation Auditions finalists—ParaMatters, Inc. and Formalloy—each had the opportunity to present their companies’ groundbreaking additive technology to a packed audience inside Cobo Hall’s Riverview Ballroom.
Michael Bogomolny, the co-founder of ParaMatters, presented the AI-powered generative design software his company developed. Then Melanie Lang, co-founder of Formalloy, spoke about how her organization’s unique Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) process creates top-quality metal parts.
After the presentations, attendees were asked to vote for the winner by using our live conference polling tool, Slido. It was an incredibly close margin, but in the end, Melanie and Formalloy took home the RAPID + TCT 2019 Innovation Award!
Keynote by Dr. Naomi Murray of Stryker
After the Innovation Auditions presentations, Amy Alexander of the Mayo Clinic took the stage to introduce our third keynote speaker, Dr. Naomi Murray, Director of Additive Technology Solutions at Stryker. Dr. Murray talked about how Stryker uses additive manufacturing methods to create their Tritanium® technology, which has been used in several FDA-cleared orthopedic implants.
She then went on to highlight Stryker’s proprietary, additive-centered approach to implant creation has made revolutionary design freedom possible. From prototyping to manufacturing, the work Stryker is doing is helping to enhance and save lives.
Women in AM/3D Perspectives Panel
Standing out among a variety of great workshops and panel discussions at RAPID + TCT 2019 was the Women in AM panel. The brainchild of Women in 3D Printing and Cyant, the #3DTalk focused on process and quality control, as well as other automation and data-driven tools used to level up or surpass existing manufacturing processes. Show Floor/SME Zone Networking Reception
After a fantastic night at Eastern Market last night, the networking reception on day three of RAPID + TCT 2019 was held on the show floor. Attendees and exhibitors alike came together over refreshments and hors d’oeuvres to network with peers, discuss applications with speakers and colleagues and continue conversations with exhibitors in a more relaxed environment.
