Conference Abstract: The United States Marine Corps. (USMC) is forging a new path for the industrialized use of additive manufacturing. From prototyping to equipment sustainment to field deployment units, the USMC is ‘all-in’ on additive.

Lars de Jongh, Sr. Project Manager at 3YOURMIND, works hand-in-hand with the USMC to standardize data processes, drive adoption, and build awareness in the USMC. In this presentation, Lars will discuss how the USMC evaluated 10,000 parts for additive manufacturing despite having distributed and oftentimes incomplete part data.

As a result of this presentation, audience members will have a greater understanding of:

  • The methods for standardizing and centralizing large volumes of traditional part data.

  • What data points were the most critical for understanding whether a part could and should be produced with additive manufacturing.

  • The organizational and logistical momentum required to bring massive change management projects to fruition in industries like defense.

  • Lessons learned, data uncovered, and applications and use cases discovered.
