Andrew Neils, PhD

Research Assistant Professor
The Roux Institute at Northeastern Unviersity
Dr. Neils is a Research Assistant Professor within the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the Roux Institute at Northeastern University in Portland, Maine. He leverages the process-structure-property materials science paradigm to either develop architected materials with superior mechanical properties, or find more efficient means to manufacture them. His research thrusts span both fundamental science and applied engineering, with programs that exhibit signficant industry collaboration. Recent programs have also leveraged additive manufacturing to create strong, lightweight lattice strcutures, in support the aerospace and other industries. Neils earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Bucknell University and his M.Eng. and Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from the University of Virginia.
