Dr. David Prawel has enjoyed a four-decade career as an entrepreneur, consultant, author, researcher and educator in 3D technology in digital product development, manufacturing and biomedical engineering. In his industrial career, he helped create several 3D technology companies, including a successful IPO. In 2007 he joined the Mechanical Engineering Department at Colorado State University where he is currently co-Director of the Biomaterials Research & Engineering Laboratory and founder of CSU’s Idea-2-Product 3D printing lab. His biomedical engineering lab explores the impact of 3D shape and structure on the biological and mechanical performance of bone healing scaffolds and devices in orthopedic and cranialmaxillofacial medicine. Because additive is critical in this research, he also works to reduce waste and improve reliability of material extrusion and powder bed 3D AM processes.
