Research Mechanical Engineer
US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC)
Katie Martin is a Research Mechanical Engineer at the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) in the Geotechnical Structures Laboratory (GSL). She currently works in fused filament fabrication (FFF) polymer 3D printing, large scale additive manufacturing (LSAM), and 4D printing/stimuli responsive printing. She has developed print parameters for an in-house built pellet-fed printer (The High Output Research Printer (THOR)), studied the effect of filament color on bistability in switchable multistable squares, and run materials characterization on a variety of materials and 3D prints. She has also researched the effect of print parameters on final part properties. Katie graduated from Purdue University in August 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
