Luke Crispo

PhD Candidate
Queen's University
Luke completed a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University in 2018 and is currently pursuing his PhD in Mechanical Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Il Yong Kim in the Structural and Multidisciplinary Systems Design (SMSD) group. His research is focused on integrating additive manufacturing and multi-material considerations into topology optimization to generate lightweight and cost-effective designs. During his academic career, Luke completed an internship at Pratt & Whitney Canada supporting the adoption of design optimization software. He has led research projects using design for additive manufacturing principles and topology optimization to design aerospace components for Bombardier, National Research Council Canada (NRC), Korean Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH), and Korea Institute of Carbon Convergence Technology (KCTECH). Luke has published new topology optimization methods in international journals and presented his research in conferences with American Institute of Aviation and Aeronautics (AIAA) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
